Senior High (11-12)

Senior School is a challenging time as students move from compulsory schooling through the transition to tertiary study and the workplace.  A wide selection of subjects approved and recognised by the QSA is offered.  In Romans 5:3-4, the Apostle Paul says that adversity leads to perseverance, perseverance leads to character and character leads to hope. We encourage our students to adopt this mindset as they work through the inevitable issues that arise through adolescence and young adulthood.

The Senior College creates opportunities for students to discover and use their God-given talents.  Students are encouraged to be the best they can be as they follow God’s plan for their lives. In the Senior College, students will work towards their QCE (Queensland Certificate of Education). The QCE is Queensland’s senior school qualification, which is awarded to eligible students usually at the end of Year 12. The ACE offers flexibility in what is learnt, as well as where and when learning occurs. Students have a wide range of learning options; these can include:

SENIOR SCHOOL SUBJECTS

These subjects may be QSA approved and contribute towards the Overall Position (OP), which is used in tertiary selection, or Subject Area Specifications (SAS) which are vocational in emphasis and recognised by the QSA, although they do not relate to an OP.

DISTANCE EDUCATION SUBJECTS

Subjects which are not offered at this school may be studied externally via one of the Schools of Distance Education. They will contribute towards the QCE and may relate to an OP depending upon the status of the subject chosen.

SUBJECTS FROM OTHER INSTITUTIONS

Students can choose to study via TAFE, University, Calvary Leadership College, AMEB  or ACM.  These subjects will generally not contribute to a student’s OP (required for Tertiary entrance).

For further details, please request a copy of the current Senior Handbook.

Due to our academic programme of excellence, our students are generally offered their first choice of university and TAFE courses.  Our Vocational Education programme has meant that students who choose not to pursue tertiary studies have been well received into the workforce. They learn that leadership attaches to those who strive to help things happen in their world, rather than to those who adopt a passive role.  We encourage our students to become involved in the life of the school community.
